Nubis, walking through the tall forest of Ziost, made his way closer and closer to the sound of falling water. All the while, he began daydreaming. Something was digging at his thoughts, aside from the still-lingering pain from bumping his head earlier. This has been too easy. Something is not right.

He was having a hard time understanding how a man like himself could bring about a course of events which he had. He had to admit, things certainly were falling into place quite easily, as if something were willing it to be so. Now he found himself on new territory, Illuminatum territory. He had also sent orders for a space colony to be built in orbit of Ziost. One which refugees from around the galaxy could come to live on. A place for them to start over.

Above him, Nubis heard the sound of an avian, squawking to its flock that there was an intruder. Nubis thought nothing of it. He was quite safe on the forest floor. The avians were too large to fit through the branches and reach him. No, his only concern was terrestrial predators. However, he had taken that into mind and armed himself accordingly.

There was a break in the forest which afforded Nubis a view of a medium-sized lake at the back of which stood a sheer cliff face. Pouring from the top was a very tall water fall, the sound of which Nubis found soothing. He made his way around the perimeter of the lake to the cliff wall. According to myth, there was a cave behind the falls which would lead to the lower levels of the ancient Sith castile. Nubis gasped. Rounding a set of large boulders at the base of the falls, Nubis caught sight of something marvelous. There it was, the cave from the legends. Drawing his carbines, he walked closer to the mouth of the cave. The sound of the falls was deafening now and Nubis realized he was having a hard time even hearing himself think.

He reached the cave entrance and pulled a glow rod from his pack. The opening of the cave was small, hardly noticeable because of the placement of rocks around it. Had Nubis not tripped on a small rock, he would never have seen it. This is amazing, he thought.

The light from the glow rod was more than enough to illuminate his path. However, the cave seemed to stretch on for ages, for at the edge of the light, there was solid blackness - no sign of the other side. He pressed on, heart racing.

Nubis realized he could no longer hear the sound of the falls behind him, no, it was replaced by a steady crackling. Suddenly, the solid darkness in front of him gave way to a warm glow. There were lit torches! He dropped the glow rod and moved into the light.

Before him was a stone room which appeared to be the bottom of a staircase. I've come too far to turn back now. He holstered one of the carbines, keeping the other solidly in his right hand. There would be no dropping it. He couldn't afford to. The stairs where also made of stone, he realized, and carefully went up them. They led upwards not in a spiral, but squarely, like in most Coruscanti buildings to date. He continued up, noting that there were strange characters along the walls, a language of sorts. He couldn't recognize it, but safely assumed it to be Sithese. Nubis would later find out that he was right.

Finally reaching the top of the stairs, Nubis was led into a chamber. The same writing appeared on the walls and there were now cloaked statues lining the room. They were ghastly figures which left Nubis with a sense that he was being watched. There was an odd, reddish light coming from a doorway at the other end. Nubis walked between the statues and through the doorway. He was shocked.

Inside the antechamber, Nubis found a pedestal on which sat a glowing crystal. He did not know it at the time, but Nubis was staring at a Sith Soul Gem, charmed with the spirit of a Sith Lord.

Nubis, curious about the object on the pedestal, crossed to it, placing his hands opposite the gem. The sweat was pouring from his brow by now and his heartbeat could all but be heard. Nubis was nervous. He had heard stories of ancient Sith artifacts being discovered on worlds all over the galaxy, but he never imagined that he'd find one himself. It intrigued him to say the least.

He licked his lips. They were painfully dry. The sweat was now starting to drip down his nose and into his eyes, adding to his discomfort. Now or never, he thought, preparing himself to touch the gem before him. His fingers were now inches away, sweat stinging his eyes. With one quick jerk of his wrist, he placed his right index finger on it.

Nothing.

He let out a loud sigh of relief and grabbed the gem. As he turned to walk out of the chamber, artifact in hand, something caught his attention. It wasn't moving - at all. He grasped it harder, pulling himself away. Still nothing. Cursing under his breath, he tried once more. It didn't move.

"This is ridiculous," he cried.

There was a sudden rumbling in the ground below him. He could hear the sound of debris falling from the ceiling and the touch of dust as it fell on him. He turned his eyes to the crystal. There was a massive blast of air and energy, throwing Nubis across the room and into the wall. His back seared with pain. He screamed.

He grabbed his back, the pain now throbbing through him. It was almost unbearable. He stood up slowly, not looking at the object in the center of the room. Nubis arched his back, hearing the popping of each vertebrae. It helped only slightly. Dusting himself off, he looked back up. What he saw shocked him, even to this day. There, hovering above the gem was the visage of a large face, staring at him. The silence was deadly.

"You have awoken my spirit, Nubis Titus Serin of Dantooine," the face said, its voice booming through the chamber. "And now, you will be rewarded for it."

There was another burst of wind, dust, and energy. Nubis was thrust across the chamber once more, although this time, he never hit the ground. Instead, Nubis found himself hovering in midair, red lights flowing around and through him. There was no pain, only darkness.

...Nubis was running, running for his life. Behind him, the eyes which had since been haunting him were on his trail. There was nowhere to go, nowhere he could go. He stopped running and turned to face his pursuer. There, just yards away were those eyes. Glowing, horrific eyes which Nubis had come to regard as death. He felt a swelling within him, a swelling which sent shivers to his fingertips. Looking at his hands, Nubis was filled with a sense of rage. He knew what to do. He thrust his hands out in front of him, fingers spread, and unleashed an amazing display of lightning. The eyes exploded in a hail of sparks. At last, the pulsing energy left his hands and he was left alone. It was finally over.

Waking up, Nubis could not remember what had just transpired. He was sweating and shivering. He couldn't see anything. Nubis pulled himself up from the cold, stone floor. The air was damp and stale. He reached for a glow rod in his pack, finding that there wasn't one. Suddenly he remembered that he had dropped it before climbing a set of steps. It was all starting to come back to him. The stairs, the chamber, the gem, the face. The face. He ran to the center of the room where the pedestal was. It wasn't there. Only a pile of stones and shards of what looked like glass remained. He scratched his head. The bump wasn't there anymore. His head didn't hurt and neither did his back. In fact, Nubis felt quite well. Aside from the sweat, which was now evaporating, Nubis felt brand new.

He turned around from the pile of stones. What do I do now? Letting out a small sigh, he felt his way out of the room and into main chamber. In there, there was light. The stairs could be seen from where he was and so he wasted no time at all in getting to them. But as he walked, he noticed something odd. The statues seemed to be moving. He stopped in his tracks, looking to his left at a bank of statues. They were moving! They were slowly bowing to him, their heads held down in an obvious show of respect. I must be dreaming.

Nubis looked back to the stairs and made a run for it. He made it to the bottom in record time, picking up the glow rod he left earlier and darted toward the cave's entrance. The sound of the waterfall quickly overpowered his heartbeat. Squinting in the bright light, Nubis stepped over some rocks and out from behind the falls. He was thankful to be out of the cave, but he felt a yearning to go back - like he was tied to it somehow. He shrugged the thought off and walked back towards his waiting B-7.
