The Commonwealth senate was convened in an emergency meeting called by Gavin Onasi after his meeting with Kuat. The senators were confused and mad since they had to leave their planets for this meeting. The senate was small so things went rather quick, so they were betting this would be quick.

Everyone rose as Gavin walked in, as was the established tradition. He waved so everyone would sit down. "Senators of the Commonwealth, I am sure you are all wondering why I have called you here. I am also sure you are all fairly mad that I called this meeting into session. Rest assured that this meeting is important, it affects the fate of our Commonwealth as a whole." Gavin then paused. A few murmurs rose through the senators.

"I was called to meet with Kuat a few days ago and I was given a shocking proposal. He would like the Galactic Commonwealth to join this new confederacy. I thought it was an interesting proposal. Initially I was shocked beyond belief. They say I will be appointed to a council of leaders, but I do not know. If we join a larger faction, then we lose the identity we have gained by joining a smaller faction. It is not my choice however. You, the senators, are the closest to the people and will do what is best for the people. I leave this choice to you." Gavin then sat down and waited for a senator to respond.

The elder senator of the planet Stic stood up and in his heavy accent said "I say we do not join, we are fine as we are, we are small and independent. In a larger faction we risk war, something I am sure we all don't want."

A senator from Elom stood up "We should join, a bigger faction means better protection. We will be MORE secure that way. I vote we join it."

Shouting erupted in the senate floor. With tempers flaring some punches were thrown around. This lasted for 5 minutes until the security Gavin called for arrived and broke it up. Gavin, looking a bit flustered said "What is wrong with you? You are SENATORS, not filth that the slums throw out. Speaking of slums, we need to fix that. That is for another day. What kind of example are you setting, brawling in here? We are going to adjourn for the day." With that Gavin stormed off being escorted by two guards, just in case

The next day Gavin called another session together. It was visible that some of the senators were bruised from the brawl the day before, and a divide could be seen in the senate. The supporters of joining the confederacy on one side, the supporters of staying independent on the other side. It seems the Commonwealth could be failing in its infancy. It was time to fix this divide.

Gavin stood up and in a booming voice stated "Senators of the Commonwealth, today we must heal what has happened. Yesterday we fought in what seemed like we were bitter enemies. We are on the same side, yet we fought. If this happens again, those senators that fight will be imprisoned and banned from the senate forever. Such violence is NOT allowed here. We need to solve the remaining question from yesterday. Should we or should we not join Kuat in the confederacy. I am afraid that some of the rights provided by the Commonwealth will be trampled upon if we join. It is not worth giving up rights for security. If we do that, then we are truly not free, and this is what the Commonwealth is about, freedom. I now ask you, what should we do. I think we should need a 3/4 margin for the decision to pass."

The 24 senators voted. The votes were tallied and it turned out 14-10 in favor of being independent. It was not enough for a final decision. The senators continued to discuss this into the night. They spent hours and hours on the same few issues. Those small key issues were not resolved when Gavin decided to end the meeting.

"Alright everyone, see what gets done without violence? We covered all but three of the remaining issues. It is time we call it a night and start fresh tomorrow in the morning. I look forward to seeing you all here again. Iím glad no one took it upon themselves to fight as a way to get their point across, since it obviously does not work. Good night everyone, have a great evening." Gavin then walked out of the room followed by the senators. There was no violence this time, but who could tell about the next time.

The senate meeting once again resumed with the 24 senators, plus the four holograms of the absent senators. They spent four more hours nailing out the key issues remaining then it was time for the vote.

"Senators, we have spent the better part of two days and part of a third debating this subject. It is time for another vote, Do we or do we not join the CIS?" Gavin then began tallying the votes, 6 for joining, 22 for staying independent as the Commonwealth. "Well it is settled then, we will not join the CIS, finally after several days of debating it is over."

Just then the three senators representing Gyndine stormed out and the hologram of the fourth one disappeared. The senate buzzed with conversations. No one knew what just happened.

Gavin quickly spoke "This meeting is adjourned, but stay on Stic, we have much more to discuss, but now i need to see what happened to our friends from Gydine" Gavin then walked out to his offices to find out what happened.
